Murals And Gallery Openings At The Barrio Logan Art Crawl

Immerse yourself in the art, culture, and history of a deeply rooted San Diego neighborhood

About Barrio Logan Art Crawl

The Barrio Logan Art Crawl happens every second Saturday of the month, technically from noon to 8pm. This is not necessarily a planned or official event with signs guiding the way, but more a date each month in which various galleries in Barrio Logan open and stay open late, pop up vendors tend to show up in the streets, and the neighborhood can showcase its food, art, and culture.

Some months the date coincides with larger community events, like April of this year when the neighborhood hosted the Barrio Logan Science and Art Expo. Some months the date coincides with exhibition openings at one of the galleries. But for the most part the Art Crawl is an invitation to walk through Barrio Logan and appreciate the community’s artistry in your own way – their murals, their galleries, their cuisine, their local crafts.

Gallery turnover is fast in the modern world, so do not expect to find an up to date map or official listing. The best thing to do would be check their instagram page (linked above). That being said, as of May 2025, here are a few spots to visit for an art crawl:

1. Chicano Park Museum and Cultural Center – Go here first to learn about the neighborhood, learn about the Chicano Park Takeover, and learn about the murals.
2. Chicano Park murals – Go see the park itself with its towering murals of protest, community, and Chicano symbolism. This is a truly unique part of San Diego. It is truly a unique part of the world.
3. Aztlan Libre – Small art gallery and community activism hub.
4. BasileIE Gallery – Art gallery space with rotating artists.
5. Sew Loka, Art Hub, 2195 Logan Ave, and other local shops – These are all places where local artisans have brick and mortar stores selling their craft. Just because it is not a painting on the wall does not mean it isn’t art.
6. Logan Ave Galeria de Arte – A small art gallery attached to a small ice cream shop. Don’t spill ice cream on the art.
7. Bread and Salt – A huge art gallery on Julian Ave that stays open late on second Saturdays specifically for the art crawl. End here or continue on to Mujeres Brewing for a beer or nine.

There are plenty of wall murals along the way to gaze at on Logan Ave. There are plenty of local places to eat or have a drink as well – Hayes Burger, Fish Guts, Todo Pa La Cruda, Jaguar Paw, or farther down – Los Cuatro Milpas.

Great For

• Appreciating art
• Free things to do
• Keeping it low key

A Closer Look

The Barrio Logan Art Crawl is a coordination of an entire community to showcase its local history, art, and culture. With rising rents all over the city and (whisper it) gentrification it is uncertain how many of these local businesses will last. The neighborhood has already seen many local businesses and art galleries disappear in the last few years. Enjoy it while you can.
