Explore The Lion’s Share For Exotic Food And Flare

Exotic foods, crafty cocktails, and fable-themed decor await you at the eclectic Lion’s Share.

About The Lion’s Share

The Lion’s Share offers eclectic food and cocktails in an intimate setting, making it one of the best restaurants in the Gaslamp district of San Diego.

The menu at the Lion’s Share has unique twists on familiar classics, and features a lot of exotic game. All the plates are shareable, but you can indulge on your own (if you want the lion’s share of the food, that is). Our favorites included the grilled baja oysters with crab and coconut curry, bison tartare, and the salt and pepper frog legs.

Cocktails are just as intriguing with variations on that classics and new, exciting concoctions with adventurous themes. Notable drinks included the Careless Whisper with pistachio infused Reposado tequila, and the Leather Jacket with rye whisky and lemon-tarragon calvados. It should not go unmentioned that the Lion’s Share has one of the best happy hours in San Diego with solid discounts on cocktails and food.

Inside, chandeliers and candelabras hang from the ceilings to create a warm glow against dark furniture, while velvety curtains are drawn back around the room entrances. Taxidermy animals are displayed on the walls such as peacocks in full plumage, and a majestic mountain lion. You’ll also find whimsical, renaissance-style paintings with aristocratic foxes and lions enjoying high society. It is obvious that each piece of furniture, glassware, and seating were meticulously selected to give you an experience that matches the adventurous spirit of the menu.

Special events and private dining options are also available at the Lion’s Share.

A Closer Look

Started by Hassan Mahmood and Roy Ledo in 2011, the Lion’s Share is currently co-owned by Roy Ledo and Carlos Valente. Having worked extensively in the hospitality industry, the founders were inspired to create their own themed restaurant that could serve as a playground for unique food, cocktails, and social gatherings. Originally working with Chef Lhasa Landry to craft an adventurous and elevated menu, the restaurant welcomed new executive chef Dante Romero to their kitchen in 2024 with a background in Mexican and French cuisine.
